Importing Sites

Supported import sources

CanaryWP imports WordPress backup archives and restores them into isolated instances. The workflow supports common archive formats including .wpress, .zip, and tar-based backups when the restore pipeline can read the archive structure.

Import steps

• Open Import Site.
• Choose an archive or select Try demo.
• Confirm the source WordPress site name and archive identity.
• Review the CanaryWP destination URL, region, plan, and login details.
• Start the import and wait for upload, restore, database import, URL rewrite, and startup verification.

File size and storage

The current upload limit is 700 MB. Uploaded import files are temporary and should be removed after processing. Permanent demo files are stored separately under files/demo and are not tied to a single user-created instance.

After import

• Open the instance URL and verify the public site.
• Open WP Admin when credentials are available.
• Review plugins, themes, WP/PHP versions, and critical pages.
• Run Site Testing before using the instance for maintenance decisions.
